Rebel Thunder

This group from Jasper Place High School has been together since August 2010, and for its first year it has been busy pumping up the spirit at school, sporting, and community events. In November 2010, they had the honour of being
selected to perform in the Grey Cup Parade, and have since been
selected to perform at other venues, such as the Northern Alberta Jubilee
Auditorium for Edmonton Public Schools’ Annual Night of Music.

Oneness

ONENESS is a percussion ensemble consisting of 8 – 12 men and women under the skilled direction of lead drummer Bill Mitchell. This group grew out of a weekly drum circle of very committed members. “ONENESS” has been learning and performing music from West Africa in which the large dunun drums as well as djembe drums are featured. Often accomplished dancers also participate. “ONENESS “ often joins with “Heart Rhythms – Women’s Percussion Ensemble” to perform for fundraisers, schools, team building functions, award ceremonies and festivals.

The group meets Tuesdays 8:15– 9:45 p.m.

Silk Sirens Tribal

Silk Sirens Tribal is an Edmonton-based tribal bellydance dance company that specializes in combining the traditional rhythms of Middle-Eastern music with the modern belly dance concept of tribal improvisation – all mixed in with a dash of funky fusion flair! Since its debut in Kaleido last year, the troupe has expanded its number of dancers to five, and has performed to high accolades at various functions and events all across the city. Silk Sirens Tribal is very proud to announce their new Tandem Tribal class starting this Fall at Rebel Hips Belly Dance Studio. Tilo Paiz Sextet & Special Guests

Performing with his latin jazz ensemble, Master Percussionist Tilo Paiz will remind audiences why he is considered the ‘bedrock’ of latin music in Western Canada. Since his arrival 20 years ago from El Salvador, Tilo has become a fixture in the local music scene, as a performer and teacher, and he has performed and recorded with the likes of Tommy Banks, Sandro Dominelli, Pavlo, Tacoy Ryde, The Funk Brothers, to name a few. His pyrotechnics on the timbales belie his 50+ years of performing experience. In honour of “Rhythms of Our Own,” the Tilo Paiz Sextet will be accompanied by some very special guest percussionists. Viajante World Beat Drum Ensemble

This ensemble, under the musical directorship of Tilo Paiz, is known for its vibrant, energetic and non-stop performances. While rooted in the Latin American musical tradition, Viajante’s style is definitely a fusion of global rhythms. Since their inaugural performance in 2001, Viajante has racked up an impressive resume of performances at a variety of events, venues and festivals in Edmonton and around Alberta, and more recently, at the Silver Skates Festival in February and the Relay for Life in May of this year. Luis Tovar

Venezuelan native Luis ‘El Pana’ Tovar has developed a reputation for his outstanding percussion skills. Since arriving in Canada four years ago, he has made his mark on the Western Canadian music scene, playing with such notable musicians as Brian Hughes, Oscar Lopez and Pavlo. ‘El Pana’ brings a unique energy and positive dynamic to the stage blending Venezuelan and Canadian musical cultures. ARAZ is an art and craft society mainly focussed on Azerbaijani music and dance.
